Things are hotting up and the sun has actually been shining, which means summer’s on the way! The natural world looks particularly lovely at this time of year, and we want to do all that we can to protect it. At Lovebug we’re all about caring for the planet, so in honour of this spring weather, we’ve put together some simple sustainable steps that we can all take at this time of year. We hope they’ll inspire you!
Reuse & Recycle
Having a spring clean? Don’t just throw things away: reuse, repurpose or recycle things wherever possible to give them a new lease of life and avoid them going to landfill. Give them away to friends or neighbours, or donate them to your local charity shop. You can find your nearest Cats Protection store and donate your unwanted clothes and other goods there, to find them a happy new home and help to support cats in need in the process! Win win.
Get Gardening
If you’re lucky enough to have a garden or other outdoor space, consider making it nature-friendly! In just a few simple steps you can create an outdoor space that’s a mini haven for birds, bees, butterflies and other insects. From a window box or balcony to the biggest of gardens, every little helps. The Wildlife Trusts have some great resources on the best plants for bees and pollinators, and they also have a whole range of ideas for how to help wildlife at home with tips for all seasons.
Remember Your Reusables
Remember to take your reusable water bottle with you when you head out! We might have gotten out of the habit over winter, but as the days get (hopefully) sunnier and warmer, a reusable water bottle is a must-have accessory. We love metal bottles for keeping cold drinks extra cool wherever we go. And a reusable coffee cup is another great investment for all you coffee-lovers!
Eat Seasonally
Eating seasonally is one great way to reduce your carbon footprint. By choosing ingredients that are currently in season, you’re avoiding the need for produce to be shipped half way around the world. Spring in the UK is still a little early for a lot of crops, but now is a great time to get to know the seasonal calendar, and see which fruits and vegetables are coming into season soon. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can even try growing your own!
Go Meat Free
With an ever-increasing choice of delicious seasonal produce to choose from, there’s no better time to start incorporating more meat-free dishes into your weekly meals! Our cats can’t go meat-free, but we most definitely can. While you’re enjoying a vegetarian or vegan meal, you can rest assured that your feline friends have reduced their carbon pawprint too! We created Lovebug, our environmentally friendly cat food, using insect-based protein to give cats all of the goodness they need without the negative environmental impact of meats like beef or chicken.
